ABOUT JOHN AVINGER
John Avinger has been studying, playing and promoting hand drumming since 1981. He was the director and producer of the Seattle World Rhythm Festival for 12 years, ran John's Music from 1981 to 2011, has taught drumming workshops for the Evergreen Orff Chapter (elementary music teachers), directed the kids drumming ensemble, Drums and Roses, which performed for the World Rhythm Festival and the Evergreen Orff Chapter, directed the junk percussion marching ensemble for the Solstice parade, and lots of other stuff.

Using vocalizations, body percussion, & hand drums (congas & djembes), we will experience what rhythm can do and it can do a lot. No experience necessary, drums provided.
Private lessons available on Conga and Djembe drums.

After 30 years of business, John has decide to retire from retail sales, and close John's Music Center. The store's last day of operation was August 31, 2011. John will continue to teach hand drumming classes and will, in fact, be expanding these offerings at The Music Center of the Northwest, a community music school in North Seattle.
